08.16.17: What you see…
InDESIGN allows you to view your work at different display levels as you work.
Perhaps you’re working on a page that includes a weather package, but you really want to turn off that weather map because it’s distracting you from laying in a story below it.
Well, you can turn that map into just a gray block on the page.
Go to the View menu, then to Display Performance, and select Fast Display.
Or…you want to see the map, but you don’t need to see detail. Then select Typical Display.
Or…if you need to see exactly how that map will look on the page—with all the details showing—then select High Quality Display.
I usually work with Typical Display selected, then go to High Quality Display to see just how the visual elements on my page are going to appear in print.
The choice is yours.
