OBITS ARE “Bible content.” Loved ones are going to want to place the obit of the dearly departed in the family Bible.
But we make it difficult for them to do that when we break an obit over two or more columns. Example: The Sandria Renaye Fuson obit at the bottom of the third leg. If we had broken that obit to continue at the top of the fourth leg here, the family would have had to cut it out in two pieces, then tape/glue/staple those pieces together.
Some newspapers insist on running the obits alphabetically. If we do that, odds are we’re going to have to break one or two (or maybe more!) obits over multiple columns.
Let’s remember who we’re really serving on the obits page. In this case, we’re not serving all our readers—we’re really serving the loved ones of the people listed here. Let’s make this page work for them.
