06.30.16: Not just your average circle
SIZE IS RELATIVE. And that’s as true in graphic design as it is in other things.
Here’s how I show it during some of my design seminars:
Take a look at the circle on the left. An average circle, as circles go. Not big. Not small. Just…well…average.
But…in the second panel, I’ve made what was an average circle quite a bit larger than average.
And in the third panel, it’s much smaller than average.
Here’s the fun part: I made that circle larger—and smaller—without touching it at all. Instead, I placed other elements where their size influences the look of the original circle.
What’s the point? Watch the elements on your pages: which do you want to be the larger visual, which smaller?
Size matters, yes…but size is relative.
