11.09.17: For good measure II
LAST WEEK, I stressed that it’s important for news designers to think in picas, not inches.
To restate briefly:
Type is measured in points. Headline sizes are expressed in points. And news design and typography are expressed in points.
Inches are divided in multiples of four. For page design, a quarter inch between items is too much, but an eighth of an inch is too little.
What falls between four and eight? Six. A pica is a sixth of an inch. Perfect.
I included a small chart with that hint, promising another chart this week.
