07.20.17: Filter those fonts!
ONE OF THE ADVANTAGES of InDesign CC is the ability to “filter” your fonts. And it’s relatively easy to do.
At many of the newspapers I visit, news designers must keep an arm’s-length list of fonts active in InDesign so the fonts used in ads on their pages don’t default.
So, they have to scroll up and down and up and down and up and down ad nauseam to use the fonts they need for their design.
InDesign CC (not earlier versions, sorry) has an answer for that: the font filter.
When you’re ready to work on a project (and you can set this up in your page templates!), just select those fonts you want to show in your font list by clicking on the white stars (1). Those stars will switch to black.
Then go to the top of the font list and click on the black star there (2).
Only those fonts that have been selected with the filter (those with the black stars) will show up in your font list (3).
Easy, huh? And what a time saver!
