YOU’VE ALL HEARD IT: “There’s nothing older than yesterday’s newspaper.”
Another truism: Nothing is duller than dirt—except a dull newspaper.
No, it’s not the mission of a newspaper to excite. Our job is to inform readers and provide an outlet for our advertisers.
But a newspaper that fails to stir readers…a newspaper that offers ads that are dated and poorly designed…is a newspaper that is easy to leave on the porch or the kitchen counter.
Where you can, on the front page, the opinion page, the sports front and the feature front, give readers content and design that will compel them to read.
Never. Be. Dull.
