02.09.17: Don’t go floppy on me
SO YOU’VE JUST finished laying in the last story on your sports front. There it is, a good package, with a good photo. And the page is all done.
Then…you notice that the swimmer is “swimming off the page.” The action in the photo (top example) is carrying the reader off the left edge of the page.
You know you gotta fix it. And the easiest, fastest way to do that is to flop (some call it “flip”) the photo.
Yeah, that could work. Just turn the photo around so the swimmer is “swimming into” the page (bottom example). That could work…but it would be wrong. Flopping a photo is something we just don’t do. Ever. It’s unprofessional and we’re professionals, right?
Oh…one other thing. If you look closely at the flopped photo, you’ll see the brand name on the goggles is backward. A sure giveaway to readers that you’ve flopped the photo.
The fix? Move the photo the right side of the page. There ya go!
