z WHATZIT HDR
I’M BEGINNING TO THINK fonts just aren’t your “thing.” Too bad. I don’t intend to stop, with continued occasional looks at type here in the Whatzit.

As for last week’s Whatzit, the Q above is Baskerville. Lynne Hummell offered the lone comment:

“Baskerville! An oldie but a goodie.”

Right y’are, Lynne!

For this week’s Whatzit, some objects I remember from years back. What are these and what were they used for?

GOT AN IDEA for the Whatzit? Email Ed at edh@henningerconsulting.com and we’ll do what we can to stump others!

HOW TO REPLY: Click on the “Leave a Comment” link at the very top of this post. (Of course, if someone’s gotten to it before you, it’ll say “XX Comments.”) Once you’ve clicked on that link, please use the “Leave a Reply” function. We love gettin’ your emails, but the Comment link is there to make it easier for you—and us!

I know I know I know … those are handles that were wrapped around the string that was tied around a bakery box full of goodies, or a pretty dress in a box with tissue paper … always a handle on something special so it was easier to carry

for the opening day photo you can do a follow up with the CUBS opening day being cancelled because of snow (yet just a few miles away the White Sox stilled played their game)!

I don’t know what the formal name for these is, but it’s a parcel carrier handle. When parcels were wrapped in brown kraft paper and tied with twine, you would slip the hooks under the twine – et voila – a handle!
