02.14.19: Back upwards
FOR MOST OF MY 30 YEARS as a consultant, I’ve maintained that an overline to a photo really doesn’t help to introduce the photo to the reader.
Just the opposite, I’ve insisted: The overline is almost always the last thing the reader sees.
The reader sees the graphic first, then the caption or title. Then he must read “back upwards” to finally see the overline.
I believe the graphic above (thanks to Randy Keck for sending it along) helps prove my point.
