The Whatzit this week is an Amphicar that was built in the 1960’s. About 5000 were manufactured in Germany starting in 1961. Apparently President Lyndon Johnson had one and liked to play a practical joke on guests at his property by claiming his brakes failed and then driving them into a lake. The Amphicar sported two 12 inch propellers, could deliver 8 knots on the water and the steering mechanism of the front wheels were the rudders. It had a 1.2 liter engine and a top land speed of 70 mph.
